Janaka Sekekta, of the dubstep EDM fame, just paired up with Zulu nation underground hip hop genius Mandeep Sethi to put out this pretty fantastic dance beat. It’s rare to bring these two genres together to create a listenable tune - but I think these two did just that. Take a listen.
Mandeep has some fantastic projects he’s working on - be sure to check out his vampy new website to see what’s being done.
This is for the nerdy folks - Amer Ahmed, other wise known on the circuit as Dawah Poet - breaks down the history of how Islam and the Hip-Hop Movement intersect and are products of each other. This video is a great 101 primer and perfect if you like those Ted Talk like lectures - and feel free to skip the first two minutes and start at 2:20.
Just gotta say Mandeep Sethi and Ras Ceylon make me so excited about hip hop and the motherland and the fusion of the two. So glad to have built with them. Can’t wait to see what comes from the two of them in this filum.
Also - if you haven’t checked it out yet - be sure to stop by the Betti Ono Gallery in Oakland, CA to see the Kalakari Collective and Slumgods with one of the dopest art shows I’ve seen, highlighting what happens when the deshi motherland gets a mic: Word to Your Motherland The exhibit will be running till August 11th.
Big tings, big tings.
Mandeep Sethi just dropped this. PICK IT UP.
Bird Flu is produced by DviousMindz and is off of Mandeep’s latest (BEST) album Ajna Chakra, downloadable in full for free on bandcamp right here.
I don’t think yall are ready for this one!! Mandeep Sethi setting the bar to new heights with the illest video out…From designing a special Kalakari cover of Poor Peoples Planet, to watching the footage come together..I must say I still get goosebumps watching this.
